The following illustrates various patterns typical of Islamic art, at least, of the mathematical and geometric type. For each the construction stage is shown, including a movie of the process, along with the final basic pattern. The construction is traditionally limited to a compass (drawing circles or sections of a circle) and a straight edge ruler. Noting that in both cases there is no scale on either implement, so one cannot measure/draw an arc of a particular angle nor can one measure/draw a line of a particular lens.
